DJ Swearingen

DJ Swearingen is proudly serving the people of the 89th district of the Ohio House.

A hard worker with blue collar roots, DJ graduated with honors from Bowling Green State University where he was a captain of the club baseball team his senior season. Shortly after graduating law school with honors from the University of Dayton School of Law, DJ and his wife Angie started their family in Huron. They and their three daughters have been proud members of the community ever since.

As our State Representative, DJ has been a fierce advocate for our area and our values. He considers it an honor and privilege to serve his constituents. He has a proven record protecting this region’s great asset – Lake Erie. He has opposed offshore wind projects, while promoting the H2Ohio funding that will support farmers and minimize algal blooms. He has collaborated with district stakeholders on the causes and solutions to the Lake's harmful algal blooms.

DJ believes in true American independence and that we need to make more things in America. DJ believes that supply chains need to move back to the United States, and he has advocated for those jobs to be located in the 89th House District. He is a staunch supporter of American energy independence. By fighting for energy independence, the cost of energy can be lowered and good jobs can be created and maintained.

DJ has also advocated for business owners and helped Ohio industries recover from losses incurred due to the pandemic. He fought against mandates and executive overreach, protecting individual rights.

DJ Swearingen knows that parents must be empowered to have a say in their kids’ education. He has supported legislation to keep far left indoctrination out of the classroom. Schools should be focused on teaching kids real world skills, financial literacy, reading, writing, and arithmetic and not a woke ideology.

DJ has fought to keep our communities safe from crime through his position as Vice-Chairman on the Ohio Criminal Justice Committee. He developed legislation to fix a bad Ohio Supreme Court decision. DJ's legislation will prevent Ohio's cash bail system from turning into the failed systems seen in states like New York, which are overrun with crime.

DJ is an attorney at the firm Wickens Herzer Panza. He specializes in business law, specifically advising small business owners on transactions, daily operations, and future initiatives. He also is a small business owner himself as a part owner in a real estate investment company.

He volunteers extensively in his community and previously sat on many area leadership committees and boards He currently serves as a Board member of the Sandusky Children's Museum.

DJ and his wife, Angie, are proud to raise their three beautiful daughters in Huron. They are active members of their local Catholic Church. In their free time, you can find the Swearingens together on the shores of Lake Erie.
